As we wind down these last few days of school, Melayna has certainly had quite a lot on her calendar.
+++
Last week, she received her National Honor Society stole that she will wear with her cap and gown in the upcoming graduation ceremony, which will take place on the 29th of May.
+++
She had her Work-Based Learning banquet where she was recognized along with her supervising teacher. Melayna has had such a great year working alongside Mrs Cavanaugh in the kindergarten classroom and she learned so much about her future in teaching from this experience.
She also received one of the top awards for Work Base Learning Students.... the Excellence Award.

One of the senior activities that the school participates in is "Senior Jean Day". Students are invited to decorate their jeans in a design that reflects where they will attend school or what they will be doing in the future. Melayna's jean were all about the kids...with a school bus, educational books on the back, and the thumbprints of all of her kindergarten students on the leg. It took her several days to paint them the way that she wanted them, but they really turned out so cute.
The finished product as she was walking out the door this morning...
On Monday the 18th, Melayna was invited back to her elementary school to participate in the senior breakfast and then after they finished visiting with their classmates and teachers (many of them whom they haven't seen since the 6th grade), they were invited to parade through the hallways wearing their caps and gowns while the elementary students cheered for them.
On Tuesday morning, Melayna was invited to the Agaitas Breakfast with any other athletes who volunteered to work with the ministry through the year.
Melayna competed in her final sectional track meet on Tuesday of her final week of school. I'll post more about that in a separate post.

Due to her recent conference meet accomplishments, Melayna was nominated to the Honorable Mention Track team this year.
There was also a scholarship night on Tuesday night but it was at the same time as the girls sectional so unfortunately, Melayna had to miss the event. Her counselor told her on Wednesday morning that she had actually been awarded EIGHT scholarships. Wow! What a blessing!!

On Thursday, Melayna spent her last school day at WCHS as she will be at the elementary school on Friday for their field day. During the first two hours of the day, they had another awards ceremony. At this ceremony, Melayna received her cords for receiving her Technical Degree and she also received a certificate for being accepted into the National Technical Honor Society.
Now her cap and gown are completely ready to go for Friday night.
She also received a citizenship award from her principal and teachers....
... and then her largest award on Thursday was when she was chosen by all of her teachers for the Inclusive Award. (There were two students chosen out of 2000 so it was a big honor). Melayna has worked as a Peer Tutor for the STARR classroom with many students with special needs for the past two years. She truly treats all students with empathy and respect and helps them to achieve things that no one else thought was possible. She was also described as one who "sees" the souls of everyone, which is rare.
Congratulations Melayna. You have such a kind heart and it doesn't go unnoticed.

A couple of hours later, Melayna walked out of the high school for the last time. She would head over to the elementary school to work with her students and then after school was finished for the day, she met us at the orchestra concert before spending the rest of the night with her senior class for the "Senior Sunset".

And finally, on Friday, she went to Lincoln Elementary to spend her final day with her kindergarten students as she helped out with field day. Melayna worked really hard in her classroom every day this year, but she is really going to miss her kids - and I'm sure that they are really going to miss her too.
