We woke up Tuesday morning to another picture perfect sunrise and then after our morning session we enjoyed a breakfast of baked oatmeal, bacon, yogurt and plenty of fresh fruit.
Tuesday was also a "free" day so that meant that we could head off by ourselves or we could find out what everyone else was doing and do things in larger groups. As long as we were back by the group sunset at 6:00 p.m., we were on our own all day. Tuesday was also the first day when rain wasn't in the forecast at all so we decided that it would probably be the best day to hit the beach. I think we may have played a couple card games or just talked with each other while it got warmer and then we started making our way down to the beach. We had a really fun afternoon boogie-boarding, snorkeling, swimming, and just trying to stay out of the way of the turtles and seals.
The beaches are very beautiful but you definitely have to watch out for all of the rocks, both along the shorelines and in the water. A couple of our guys got pretty beat up when they were surfing or boogie-boarding and rode the waves straight back into the rocks.
We found a couple more seals that morning. The lifeguards had to set up two more protected areas while we were there.
Oh, and did I mention that Kauai is full of feral roosters?! There were everywhere, especially the beach. Imagine my surprise when I looked up and saw two or three roosters around me. And sidetone...they don't know how to tell time either so they crow at all hours of the day and night. LOL
There was a hot dog stand and a couple of other stores across the road from the beach. Our hosts recommended that we try the Puka Dogs before we left the island... so that's exactly what Noel did!
What is a puka dog, you ask? I'm so glad you asked. A puka dog is an entirely hawaiian style hot dog. First you toast a hole in the center of a freshly baked bun. Then they add your choice of condiments into the bun before adding the "hot dog" or polish sausage and then more condiments. (The condiments can include mango, pineapple, papaya or coconut, etc). Then they top it off with passion fruit mustard. I tried a bite of Noel's and we both decided that it was good. Maybe not good enough to wait in line another 30 minutes on another day... but definitely worth trying. Because, hey, we're in Hawaii. LOL

Around 2:00 pm, Noel and I decided that we had spent enough time at the beach so we were getting ready to pack up our things and walk the couple of miles back to the house when people started pointing at something out in the ocean. We looked up just in time to see a whale jump out of the water and dive back in. We were able to watch that whale jump and turn a couple of times but unfortunately, it was too far out to get a video or any good photos. Others were able to see more whales at different times in the week ut unfortunately, that was the only time that I saw one. When we were sure that the whale was gone, we did pick up our things and headed back to the house. At the house, I sat out by the pool and read a book and we just relaxed as other groups started arriving back home as well. It was nice just getting to sit and not have anything that we had to do. 'Definitely a slower and much needed change of pace.
I was sitting in the second swinging chair on the back deck, which quickly became one of my favorite spots for the week.
Eventually, more and more of our group started coming outside as we all came back from our activities and one of the guys noticed two feral cats in the yard. One of the cats was just resting under the tree when a striped cat started watching it closely. It became obvious that the striped cat was actually "hunting" the other cat and so one of the guys had to record their interaction.

Around 6:00, we made our way back to the rocks for another group sunset and then we finished our night with a dinner of Pork sliders, coleslaw and roasted vegetables. I think we also raided the pantry for some chocolate chip cookies and some fruit. Then we finished up with another group session and another day came to a close pretty early as our group would leave the house the next morning at 6:00 a.m. for our next group adventure.
