25th Anniversary Hawaii Trip // Day Six // Hapa Trail to Koloa and a Restful Nap

Thursday would be another free day for our group, so after catching the sunrise together and then our morning session, we were able to divide up and head off to explore.  After the early morning the day before, I decided to sleep in a little later on Thursday so I missed the sunrise down on the rocks and just caught some of the colors from our balcony.  It was still quite breath taking.

After our morning session was complete, a couple of us started talking about what we wanted to do that morning and almost everyone decided that they wanted to explore the town of Koloa, which was about three miles away.  Most of the group wanted to drive to the town, but Noel and I decided that we would walk the Hapa trail into town since my legs were pretty tight from the waterfall hike the day before and I was hoping that walking more would make them feel better.  (Thankfully it did).  Another couple decided that they would walk with us as long as we were dropped off at a coffee shop at the trailhead, so that is what we did.  We rode to the Little Fish Coffee Shop at the beginning of the Hapa Trail and then we walked the three mile grassy path the rest of the way.

'Not sure what kind of tree / cactus this is, but it's fascinating how the cactus grows up out of a dead looking tree.

We had a really nice leisurely walk and enjoyed our conversation so it felt like the three miles passed by really quickly and before we knew it, we were in the town of Koloa and looking through the souvenir shops.  This may also be the town where Noel and I bought freeze-dried jolly ranchers for the first (and only) time in our lives.  But hey, we're in Hawaii.  LOL

We also met up with two other couples and grabbed some burgers and mai tai's at the Kauai Island Brewery... the World's Westernmost Brewery.

After lunch, we all started dividing back up and getting into vehicles to head back to the house.  Since our walk there had been so enjoyable, Noel and I decided that we would just walk back on the trail but the other couple decided to do some off road exploring so they took a jeep and we all headed off different directions.  Noel and I did enjoy our walk together...unfortunately, I had forgotten about being dropped off at the coffee shop on the way there and we wouldn't be picked up on the way home, so that would add another 1.5 miles to our trip...making another day of walking over 7 miles.  Good thing that I like walking.

We had passed this little Catholic Church on the way into town but didn't stop, so on the way home, Noel and I decided to walk over and check it out.  Even though mass had already ended, the back doors were still open so we took a couple of minutes to step inside

We did make our way back to the house eventually and some of the other couples were getting back from their adventures as well so we sat down and played a couple of card games or read by the pool.  I actually fell asleep on one of the lounge chairs by the pool and had a nice restful nap.  Then we headed  back down to the rocks for another sunset together, but unfortunately, there wasn't really a sunset that night because of all of the clouds that had moved in.  It was still relaxing to sit down there and listen to the crashing waves.

Thursday night's dinner was salmon, asparagus, roasted potatoes and fresh fruit.  Thursday night was also the night that Noel and I were to share the story of how we met and a little bit about how we grew up.  Then we all went back to our rooms for another night's sleep.  Or in Hawaii you might say,

Moemoe pono i ka po -- which means, "Sleep well in the night'.
