Track VS Northwood and Wawasee // First AND Second Attempt

Melayna was scheduled to run in her second conference meet on Tuesday night after school.  The weather forecast was calling for heavy rain and storms earlier in the day, but as the day went on, it looked like the worst of it would pass north of the meet's location and maybe we would be able to get it in.

Nolan and I got ready after school and then we drove up to Wawasee high school and paid to get in.  We walked by the track as the hurdlers were stretching and running their warm-ups.  We passed by them all and headed off to the stands.

The clouds were really dark and ominous north of the school but according to the radar, it was all suppose to stay north of us.  Unfortunately, after the first relay was completed and the JV girls were getting into the starting blocks for the 100 hurdle race, someone saw lightening and the meet was delayed for a half hour.  We were told to exit the stadium and head for our cars -- and about 20 minutes later an actual thunderstorm came through and the meet was cancelled for the night and rescheduled for Wednesday night

Our second attempt at the meet came on Wednesday...

Once again we had rain in our forecast, but this time the forecast was showing that a thunderstorm would come rolling through about 3 pm and then the skies should clear up.  Despite the fact that a storm did pass through and the rain didn't stop until about 4:30 p.m., the meet was still on, so we headed back up to Wawasee high school for the second night in a row in the hopes that they could get the entire meet completed before the next round of rain and thunderstorms came rolling through.

When I got there, the bus had just arrived about 15 minutes before and the girls were still going through their stretches and warm-ups.

Since they had already ran the 4x800 relay the evening before, Melayna's event would be the first one as soon as the National Anthem was over.

She was in the third lane of the varsity heat and she would barely outlean her teammate for a first place finish and a season's best time of 17.13.

After a couple more events, she would come back to run the 300 hurdles.  Once again, she would be in the varsity heat and once again, she would win the event.  This time with an improved time of 49.82, which greatly encouraged her.  She was really tired after she finished though.  That race is tough!!

Melayna would run in the varsity 4x400 relay to finish off the night.  Once again, she would run the third leg.

I started filming the video as the 2nd girl came down the homestretch with a comfortable lead.  Melayna would easily hold on to the lead and would run another 1:02 split and the team would easily win with a final time of 4:11.

Good job ladies.  Way to come back from a tough loss last week and a rain cancellation this week.
