Middle School Awards Recognition

Nolan had his awards recognition ceremony for his 7th grade year on Thursday night.  In previous years, the school would hold the awards ceremony during the school year and all of the kids would  have to go down to the gym and sit through the two hour presentation, whether they were receiving any awards or not.  Since the administration discovered that this caused a lot of distractions with students who weren't earning any awards and didn't even want to be there, it was changed to an "invite only" event and students weren't invited to come unless they were receiving at least one award.

Nolan received 9 awards during the presentation.  8 of the awards were for high achievement in his individual subjects and his final award was the "Principal's Award" which was based more on his character.  All of the teachers go together and vote on this award and one 7th grader and two 8th  graders were nominated.  When Nolan went up on stage to receive his certificate, the principal described him as a quiet young man who often seemed invisible to many, but he was very kind to everyone, a great helper to all of his teachers, and someone that you could always count on to do the right thing.

Noel and I (and all three of Nolan's sisters) are very proud of Nolan and the young man that he is.

I didn't take pictures of every award that he won, but I did take a couple.

As we were leaving the building, I couldn't find Nolan in the crowd.  Then I saw him holding open the door for a lot of people who were leaving, which made us smile because it was just one small example of why he won the Principal's character award just a few minutes before.
