We received word before spring break that Melayna had been chosen to represent the Career Center at the area Optimist breakfast meeting as she was a "Student of the Week". We were asked to attend the meeting beginning at 6:45 in the morning so that the students could receive their awards and then leave in time for school.
After being introduced, Melayna was asked to talk about her future plans and how she planned to better serve her community through her future career as a teacher.

On Thursday night, we were invited back to our high school as honor students were being recognized and receiving their honor cords through the Tri Kappa awards ceremony.
Melayna was recognized as graduating Summa Cum Laude and received her gold cords.
After all of the students were recognized for their academic awards, Tri Kappa announced that there was a selected group of students who would receive an additional award for not only achieving outstanding grades, but they were also nominated by the school as positively representing the school through sports, activities, and community events. Melayna was also chosen to receive that prestigious award.
Congratulations Melayna. We are so proud of you and your achievements.

And then on Friday, we received notice that Melayna has been chosen to receive the Next Generation Hoosier Educators scholarship award for this upcoming year. This is a very limited scholarship that is given to future teachers and it pays $10,000 a year and up to $40,000 over the four years of college. Melayna received the award and will be the one recipient to represent her school. I knew that she was applying for the scholarship, but I had forgotten about it really so I was definitely shocked and overcome with gratitude to find out that she was chosen.
God is our Jehovah-Jirah. The One who Provides. We are so thankful for his provision to us!
