The busyness of the weekend just continued into last week as we woke up on Monday morning and headed over to the high school for Melayna's signing day. Melayna already officially committed to Grace College last fall and signed all of the contracts with them already, but this was a school sponsored event so that she could invite her friends and teammates and have pictures posted to the school website.
26 seniors from the WCHS class of 2026 have committed to play their sports at the college level and 11 of those celebrated that commitment last Monday.
After taking one large group picture, they were asked to form a line in the gym and then they were announced one at a time. They were asked to sit down and state their name and then where they would be attending college. I think they were also suppose to say what sport they would be participating in, if they had a roommate and why they chose the college that they did.
When it was Laynie's turn, she introduced herself and then she shared that she would be running track at Grace College. She already has two other roommates and she chose Grace because it felt like family when she visited campus. And she also said that her faith was an integral part of who she was and she really hoped to grow in her walk with Christ.
After all of the students were able to share, we were given about five or ten minutes per each athlete so that we could take pictures with family and friends. Due to a miscommunication between Melayna's high school coach and our athletic office, they didn't have Melayna on any of the emails leading up to this event so we didn't find out that it was happening until 9:30 p.m. the night before. We were so happy for the girls that got Melayna's last minute notice and still made it into school early enough on Monday morning to stand with her in support.
